How to detect the bot ?

Hello,

I have read in the FAQ that you still don't have a USER AGENT value (just the standard IE one).

Well, firstly, I was like.. why does a screenshot service use the worse renderer ?
Ok, I have just to accept this, but I'm somebody that fights against IE as it's one piece of cr*p.

So on my websites, I like to inform people they use a bad browser by displaying a warning message.
My problem is that as Thumbshots uses IE, the screenshots also displays the warning message.

Now, I can just disable Thumbshots on my website, but I'd prefer having a screenshot.
Does your bot have a static IP, or static IPs? Could I have them to detect the bot?
Can you change your IE User Agent so everybody can detect it with ease?

I don't know, but I think all bots must provide something so webmasters can detect them...

Thanks, Daan

If you provide the URL of your site, maybe one of our engineers can take a look and see if the issue has to do with the generator or your html, and if we can generate it better. Thanks.

Re: How to detect the bot ?

That's not my question. That won't help me, neither other people.
I'm just asking you how to detect the crawler so web designers can adapt their design to the Thumbshots crawler.

It shouldn't be that hard to change the IE user agent...

I found a temporary solution for my problem : I just disallowed the IE specific style sheet for all robots.
It's not the best solution, but whatever, I hope this works.

I'm hoping for a better solution....

thanks, Daan
